Democracy Now! is an independent, daily global news hour anchored by award-winning journalists Amy Goodman and Juan González. What I’ve seen from Neil Gorsuch is that when liberals want something, regardless of whether there’s precedent in their favor, he’s looking for ways to dismantle those precedents, and when conservatives want something, he’s going out of their way to give them their wish list. And that’s even scarier than someone who just wants to dismantle the court’s role in society.

“One day—I think it was a Sunday—where we were picking strawberries, it was raining, and it was like super cold, like the wind and stuff like that. And I was kind of feeling a little sick. It was like around 12:00. And I wanted to go home, so I asked my mom. And then she said, if I’m like not feeling well, we should go home. And then my mom told the supervisor. But the supervisor said like, ‘If you guys don’t get back to work, your whole—you guys all will get fired, and then you guys will find someplace to live.’ Like just like right away, like at the same day, you get fired and then you have to find a place to stay.”
- Alfredo Juárez, a 16-year-old who has been picking berries for Sakuma Brothers Farms in Washington state since he was 13.
Saturday marked the international day of action to boycott Driscoll’s, the world’s largest berry distributor. Berry pickers have been organizing for three years at Sakuma Brothers Farms in Burlington, Washington, one of the farms where Driscoll’s buys berries.
Democracy Now! traveled to Burlington, where Laura Gottesdiener filed a special report on the boycott. We spoke with protesting farmworkers about allegations of stolen wages and child labor practices and toured camps where workers live with their families.
